Coba CTA120 Powder Adhesive - Frost & Moisture Resistant 25kg

Application

Coba CTA120 dust-free, moisture- and frost-resistant powder adhesive is suitable for bonding wall and floor tiles indoors and outdoors on all common substrates, such as concrete, cement screeds, sand-lime brick, cement- and gypsum-based plaster, aerated concrete, gypsum blocks, plasterboard, waterproof plywood, and construction and insulation boards. Coba CTA120 is suitable for underfloor heating, tiles with very low water absorption, and is moisture- and frost-resistant. Coba CTA120 is flexible according to NEN EN 12002 and has a long open time. Suitable for use in dry and wet areas. Coba CTA120 powder adhesive is suitable for outdoor and underwater applications such as balconies, patios, and swimming pools. When applied in a closed layer, Coba CTA120 powder adhesive is waterproof. Meets BREEAM-NL requirements, credit HEA 9 .

Processing Coba CTA120 Surface preparation

The substrate must be clean, dry, load-bearing, crack-free, stable, and free of any substances that could adversely affect adhesion. Always prime highly absorbent substrates with Coba DPM800 primer. Smooth and non-absorbent substrates, such as existing tile work (indoors only), must be degreased with Coba ASP990 tile cleaner and primed with Coba DPM810 primer. Wooden floors must be sufficiently rigid with a screwed construction of waterproof plywood (at least 15 mm thick).

Processing

Add 25kg of coba CTA120 to approximately 6.5 (for 5kg, approximately 1.3) liters of clean tap water. Use a clean, dry mortar container. Mix for 1 minute with a mortar mixer until a homogeneous, lump-free mixture is obtained. Mix again after a few minutes. The tile adhesive is then ready for use.

Apply Coba CTA120 with a suitable notched trowel. Choose a notch that ensures at least 80% contact surface between the back of the tile and the adhesive. For outdoor applications, heavy-duty (floor) tiling, thin tiles, or large-format porcelain tiles (> 40x40 cm), a 100% contact surface is required. In these cases, the tiles should be adhered to the substrate using the buttering/floating method. Press the tiles into the adhesive with a sliding motion for optimal initial adhesion. Avoid exceeding the open time.

If in doubt, always test a piece or contact our technical advice department.

  • Process prepared adhesive within 120 minutes.
  • Processing temperature between 5°C and 25°C.
  • Clean tools immediately after use with (warm) water.

Post-treatment/drying

The setting time of the adhesive depends on the ambient conditions, such as temperature, moisture, substrate, and type of tile. The tiles can be walked on after 24-48 hours. After curing, grout with a Coba grout sealant.
