Measuring your space so you can order the right amount of tiles is the first step in our mosaic tile DIY guide.

Properly measuring the surface is important, because this way you can be sure that you order the correct quantity of tiles. You use the length and width of the surface to measure. For example:

You want to cover the floor in the hall with mosaic tiles. The floor is 4 meters long and 2 meters wide. You multiply 4 meters by 2 meters, this amounts to 8 square meters (or m2). Divide this 8 m2 by the surface area of one box of tiles, so you know how many tiles you need.

However, take cutting loss into account. The sheets will often not be able to be placed completely against the wall, for example because small mosaics protrude beyond the sheet. This means you have to cut or cut the sheet. This causes you to suffer some loss, which is called cutting loss.
